Review: Dior Addict Ultra-Gloss Pearl
April 8, 2010 2 Comments
This product was just released at my counters yesterday and I picked one up to review for you guys! What it is: flash-pumping super dazzling gloss.
Dior claims that
“Straight from the runway, new Dior Addict Ultra-Gloss features a featherweight formula with a flash-plumping, ‘spotlight shine’ effect. Hyaluronic spheres keep lips smooth and moisturized, while mirror-like micropearls reflect light in all directions for a dazzling finish. The package is tall and sleek, with a Lucite top that mirrors the nano-spotlight effect. The precision brush applicator makes for effortless, perfect application every time.”
This is coming out as a new part of Dior’s permanent line, rolling out with all the summer products on the same display at my local Bloomingdales. There are twelve shades in all to choose from, and today I am reviewing #856 in “Little Red Dress.”

According to the Sephora page, the technology featured here is
An exclusive “Spotlight Shine” complex features glass-like micro-marbles of varying sizes, which multiply light tenfold to illuminate lips like nano-spotlights! The nano-spotlights reflect light in every direction like a kaleidoscope, to multiply and maximize shine—all while delivering a sheer wash of catwalk color.
Well, I don’t know what it is but it sure is shiny. It has a look like MAC’s Dazzleglasses but with finer glitter, and it is not at all sticky like MAC’s.

It’s got tons of fine micro-glitter that will make your lips super shiny and plump, and while I did see a significant plumping effect it did not sting or buzz or anything like that. The formula is lovely and lasts about 2-3 hours without drying out which is quite good in my opinion. As it dries out it loses some of that color intensity but leaves a lovely, glimmering stain on the lips.

The above picture was taken with only one coat but it can be layered for the intensity more like in the swatch. The brush is a standard synthetic brush and does the job credibly allowing a decent degree of precision when applying something so pigmented. The pigmentation is wonderful, really, and I can achieve total red lips with just a gloss, no lipstick. Bet this looks great over some other reds though. The red definitely leans warm and has a bit of orange undertone which is not what I expected at all–in the tube I thought it’d be a more blue red!

Overall I quite love this gloss and will probably return to purchase other shades. A solid entry by Dior and an A+ from Firedawn Beauty and Make Up Blog!
