Review: Chanel Rouge Double Intensite Ultra-Wear Lip Colour in Rose Agate 19

OK, that was a mouthful, wasn’t it?
Today I’m reviewing a longwear product for you, ladies. This came out earlier this year, I believe, and it is just like the MAC Pro Longwear products in description. You get one side that has a longwear lip cream/whatever you want to call it, and one side is a gloss. In all the shades I’ve seen for the Chanel Ultra-Wear Lip Colour, the gloss has been clear, which is just fine with me.

According to Chanel:
Fabulous word of mouth. Glorious long-lasting colour paired with high-shine gloss. Full-coverage colour lasts all day. Gloss top coat imparts brilliant shine, superb hydration. Base Colour Coat: Innovative fluid texture delivers long-lasting performance, comfortable application and perfect adherence to lips – without transferring or feathering. Dries quickly, too. Top Gloss Coat: Clear gloss’s soft, non-tacky texture provides high shine and comfort throughout the day. For ultra-long wear, apply colour and let dry completely (about a minute). Follow with gloss for shine and comfort. Reapply gloss top coat as desired.
The formula is very sticky and you MUST set it with a gloss (it doesn’t matter what gloss–you don’t even have to use the gloss included) after you let it dry. It starts out super tacky and once it dries it’s super super matte and if you don’t add a gloss your lips will crinkle up like an old lady’s! Once your lips absorb the moisture of the gloss though, even if your gloss wears off your lip will be quite comfortable.

For me, this shade is the perfect brownish-pink. It’s super neutral and it’s really pigmented to cover any uneven pigmentation on your lips. It’s definitely a “my lips but better” shade because it looks very pretty and natural on me, though you can get a more intense look out of it if you do a second thin layer of the main color product after the first dries. That look is not so much a pop of color but just very creamy and very pigmented, but with only one layer and a gloss it’s quite natural on me. I don’t know if that made sense. Gah.

Anyway, on me it trucked on for 4 hours, a full meal, and a drink and it survived just fine, with the gloss all gone but the color still perfect. At this point I had to take it all off and do my make up to go out later in the night, but I’d say it’ll last just fine. It’s one of the best longwear products I’ve ever used, as those old Maybelline ones made my lips shrink up, and the MAC ones are still too dry. This is such a lovely shade, also, and I can see why it’s sold out at many counters (as my local Chanel MUA claims).

Overall a lovely find and well worth the $34 I paid for it. Big fat A (would’ve been A+ if it were under 30).
