Packed lunches – Tonkatsu style.

In an effort to cook more and eat out less, and save some money too.. I’ve been making lunch to bring to work, or sometimes dinner too. Today’s was almost entirely prepared the night before except for this delicious Tonkatsu and steak sauce I whipped together this morning in 20 minutes.

The sauce is just Worcestershire sauce, ketchup, sugar, and lots of black pepper, and the sides are tamagoyaki (I’m getting ridiculously good at making this), leftover bean sprouts, leftover spinach stir fry, cucumber salad (from a huge stash I have in my fridge), and some mixed fruits. I also have some Nutella finger sandwiches in another box. All this is supposed to get me through the day to 10 PM.. we’ll see how that goes, but I highly recommend this recipe for Tonkatsu from Maki at JustHungry. It’s just wonderful and so easy.

Gratuitous ice cream photo.

Yesterday after photoshooting with my friend Sherry, we hopped over to Fosselman’s in Alhambra for a bite of ice cream. I didn’t finish this sundae as it is quite big, but man was it good while my stomach held up in the fight to finish. I tried a bit of Sherry’s “pink grapefruit” flavored sorbet though, and I actually think the sorbet, surprisingly, turns out on top. I’m going to order that next time.

Citrusy Yumminess: Brown Butter Winter Citrus Pancakes

Image via Joy the Baker.

I made up a batch of these just now with spare oranges on hand (I had all the other ingredients, save buttermilk, which you can whip up a quick substitute by stirring a tablespoon of lemon juice or white vinegar into a cup of regular milk and then waiting 5 minutes), fully planning to take photos for all you lovely people to see.

Unfortunately the photos never happened. Making these made me so hungry that the moment I Was done frying the last pancake I gobbled the entire plate of 6 pancakes up. Yes, by myself. I’m a woman, hear me roar!

I promise I’ll try harder to have pictures next time.

Europane Bakery & Cafe.

Today, I had the pleasure of going to Europane Bakery & Cafe, located in

Hands down, the best macaroons I have ever had. The chocolate ones are definitely my favorite–they have a sprinkling of sea salt on them that turned this already excellent, just-chewy enough macaroons into delighting blisses.

I must return here for lunch. Very soon.
